Photos: Daniel Kordan
These amazing pictures were taken by renowned landscape photographer Daniel Kordan. The crowning glory of the collection is this amazing shot of a Russian volcano erupting forth with lava. An image so striking it could be a scene from a fantasy movie.
The image of the volcano was taken while Kordan was leading a photography workshop in Kamchatka, Russia. By sheer luck, it was at the exact same time as the Klyuchevskaya volcano was erupting. Kamtchka is in the far-East of Russia and is inhabited by very few people, making it the perfect place for landscape photographers.
Amazingly, and again by sheer serendipity, Kordan took the image at the exact same time a meteor was flying overhead. It is the bright white streak heading over the volcano.
Kordan said of the image:
"We stayed with my group at camp close to a small pond. We caught reflections of volcanoes and accidentally I also caught a shooting star during a long exposure of 25 seconds. The mirroring effect adds a level of charm to the scene, as the not-quite symmetry offers an abstracted view of what was going on in the sky."

On his website, he explains his background and inspiration, saying:
"I have been fascinated by the possibilities of photography since my early childhood. I grew up at beautiful lake region under Moscow exploring wild nature, spending most of my free time in the nature. I graduated the art painting school when I was a kid. Mix art, nature, constant activities and you'll receive a summary – art of Landscape photography. Life started swirling me, pushing me into the rush. University, hard work on my quantum physics thesis, family and friends… But there is always a pleasure in the pathless woods: places I always returned and always admired. Nature is my inspiration, with all the beauty and variety of colours and compositions."
Other images in Kordan's collection include shots taken in other parts of Russia, China, Mongolia and Indonesia. They encompass so much of nature's beauty, including amazingly clear skies, trees in the depths of winter, and deserts that stretch as far as the eye can see.
