It has been revealed that the UK's youngest lottery winner, Callie Rogers, is now unemployed and living on benefits after her life spiralled out of control.
Rogers won a huge £1.8 million jackpot on the UK's national lottery aged just 16 in 2003, but a series of poor decisions resulted in her losing all the money she won. Now aged 33, the mother-of-four has not a single penny to her name.
The details of Rogers' life came to the media's attention after she was recently arrested and charged with driving under the influence. A court heard that she was caught driving a 4x4 and tested positive for alcohol and cocaine. In a scuffle that took place during her arrest, she was pepper-sprayed by police officers to get her under control.
At court, she was given a 22-month driving ban and will be forced to wear a crime-prevention tag for 11 weeks, while also being fined £200.
When Rogers won the money aged 16, she was working in a supermarket earning £3.60 per hour. After winning the money, it is thought that she gave £500,000 to friends and family, spent money on cosmetic surgeries, and spent £300,000 on designer clothing. Rogers had previously told reporters that she had also spent £250,000 on cocaine but has since denied that this is true.
Five years after the lottery win, and following the breakdown of a relationship, Rogers is said to have attempted suicide. She was also the victim of a brutal physical assault by individuals living in her local area.
At one point, her children were taken into foster care as she was deemed unfit to look after them. It was at this time that Rogers spent £17,000 on a breast enlargement.
She now says that the UK national lottery should do more to protect young winners and give them more financial advice after big wins. Rogers is just one of a large number of lottery winners who have gone on to see their lives disintegrate and for them to lose most or all of their money in a very short time.
