A video showing a couple who refused to wear a mask being escorted off a plane has gone viral online. The video caught the attention of the internet not just because the couple was removed, but because of the reaction of both the other passengers, who clapped and cheered, and a flight attendant, who did a little dance.
Brendan Elder, who took the video, posted it on social networking site Tik-Tok to great acclaim.
The flight was a Southwest flight, but it is unclear where in the United States the incident took place.
It is currently against the law to not wear a mask on a flight.
The video shows a steward speaking to a woman who says:
"You're saying I didn't comply and put my mask on when you asked me to? Are you seriously telling them that I didn't put my mask on when you asked me to? You are a liar."
Passengers then start shouting:
"Get off the plane!"
The woman turned to the passengers and stuck her middle finger up to swear at them.
When the couple was escorted away, the passengers cheered and the steward did a little celebratory dance.

Southwest Airlines said:
"Federal law requires each person to wear a mask at all times in the airport and throughout the flight, including during boarding and deplaning."
They also note that not wearing a mask:
"May result in denial of boarding, removal from the aircraft, and/or penalties under federal law."
It is as of yet not clear whether the passengers will face charges for refusing to wear their masks. Masks are seen as being highly effective at stopping the spread of Covid-19. However, in the United States, there have been hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals caught on camera arguing with retail staff, restaurant staff, and staff on transport when they refused to wear a mask.
Many conspiracy theorists have argued that masks do not work and that they pose an infringement to personal liberty.
