The United States has firmly condemned comments that were recently made by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Israel and Jewish people as anti-Semitic. Ned Price, a spokesperson for the State Department, said:
"We urge President Erdogan and other Turkish leaders to refrain from incendiary remarks, which could incite further violence,"
He continued, noting:
"Anti-Semitic language has no place anywhere," he said.
Price did not mention which of Erdogan's remarks the United States refers to as anti-Semitic. Despite clarification requests, the State Department has not given an immediate response.
Erdogan has openly voiced his support for the Hamas, while criticising Israel for performing airstrikes on Gaza. He has further called Israel a 'terror state' after police fired rubber bullets at Palestinians in Jerusalem.
Speaking of terorism and Jewish people, Erdogan has also stated that:
"It is in their nature."
And further, that:
"They are murderers, to the point that they kill children who are five or six years old. They only are satisfied by sucking their blood."
