Vitalik Buterin has become the world's youngest self-made crypto billionaire at age 27 after making huge gains as the founder of cryptocurrency Ethereum.
Buterin helped establish the blockchain for Ethereum back in 2015, which has now become one of the world's most sought after crypto-currencies. Only Bitcoin is more popular.
The billionaire status was assured when Ethreum passed by a value of $3,000 per coin this week. The currency has grown in value by 325% in 2021 alone.
Crypto-currencies have soared in price following the pandemic as more and more people sought to look for the unique investment. The price has also been pushed up by many established firms and individuals investing in crypto, including Elon Musk's Tesla, and many mainstream banking organisations.
Buterin was born near Moscow, Russia, in 1994, but was raised in Toronto, Canada. He previously wrote for Bitcoin magazine and won the 'Thiel Fellowship', which gave him $100,000 to invest as he so wished.
Buterin is now the world's second-youngest self-made billionaire, behind Austin Russel who became a billionaire aged 25 in 2020. Russel made his money from founding Luminar Technologies.
Some expect cryptocurrency to increase in value in the years ahead as the world braces economic uncertainty and the possibility of runaway inflation.
Hunain Naseer, senior editor at OKEx Insights, said of the future of crypto:
"We can expect ETH to consolidate in the current range and retest the support zone between 2,900 and 3,000 USDT. On the upside, resistance is likely between 3,250 and 3,300 USDT, while strong support, in the event of a market crash, is likely to be seen in the 2,500 to 2,600 USDT zone. In order for ETH to continue consolidation followed by appreciation, BTC needs to stay above the 55,000 USDT level without any major market shocks."
