Hacker activist group 'Anonymous' have released a video in which they have threatened one of the world's richest men, Elon Musk, for supporting dictatorships and allegedly rigging the market in crypto-currencies.
Elon Musk is the founder of both Tesla and SpaceX and is worth well over $100 billion. Recently, he has played a huge role in the crypto-world. His company Tesla has bought over $1 billion in Bitcoin and he has been a shameless promoter of novelty cryptocurrency Dogecoin. In fact, Tesla made more money from Bitcoin in 2021 than it did from the whole of its vehicle sales in 2020.
However, Musk has also stopped taking Bitcoin payment in exchange for his Tesla vehicles and after buying up Dogecoin, told investors it was a 'hustle' while presenting Saturday Night Live. His statements and actions have helped vastly fluctuate the crypto-markets.
Like most Anonymous videos of the past, an individual wearing a 'V for Vendetta' Guy Fawkes mask appears on screen and speaks in a heavily altered voice.
The speaker said of Musk that he was:
"Just another narcissistic rich dude who is desperate for attention."
Adding:
"It appears your quest to save the world is more rooted in a superiority and savior complex than it is in actual concern for humanity."
The speaker then referenced Musk's support for the attempted fascist overthrow of the democratic Bolivian government. The Bolivian government has sought to nationalise the nation's Lithium mines which are a key material in the building of electric cars, such as the Tesla cars that Musk makes. The right-wing movement that tried to overthrow the Bolivian government opposed the nationalisation of these mines.
Anonymous also claim that Musk has bought Lithium from companies that employ children.
The video ends by saying:
"You may think you are the smartest person in the room, but now you have met your match. We are Anonymous. We are Legion! Expect us."
Hacker group Anonymous have become hugely famous over the last 10 years for carrying out cyber-attacks on groups and individuals they perceive as authoritarian or immoral. This famously included the Church of Scientology, which Anonymous regard as a cult.
