Former Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has said in a recent interview that anybody believing that UFOs are aliens from another world are 'idiots'. He made the statement during an interview with CBC news amid growing speculation over Unidentified Flying Objects and the US government's increasing interest in the subject.
Over the past year, as a result of credible naval and air-force personnel coming forward with stories of UFOs, and the release of footage by the Pentagon which appears to show futuristic spaceships, there has been a greater interest in UFOs than there has been for a number of years. Even former president Barack Obama chipped in on the subject, suggesting that the UFOs could potentially be advanced military hardware belonging to foreign, and potentially hostile, nations.
In the videos, the objects appear to behave like technologically advanced airships and travel at speeds and in a manner that is beyond the capacity of any currently known Earth technology.
In the interview, Hadfield said that though he had seen many things he could not explain during his time as an air-force pilot and as an astronaut, he believed the idea that such things were alien beings was simply illogical. He said:
"Obviously, I've seen countless things in the sky that I don't understand. But to see something in the sky that you don't understand and then to immediately conclude that it's intelligent life from another solar system is the height of foolishness and lack of logic. But definitively up to this point, we have found no evidence of life anywhere except Earth, and we're looking. It's intriguing and it's right on the brink between reality and science fiction and fantasy. And so it's all really fun to think about."
The recent evidence from US military personnel and the released Pentagon videos has been taken so seriously that there is now an ongoing Congressional hearing into the subject, overseen by senior politicians of both major parties.
The 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force' plans to release its findings sometime next month.
