Scotland football fans have helped clean up London following their team’s heroic 0-0 draw with England in the 2020 Euro championships.
As many as 30,000 Scotland fans made the trip to London despite only 2,500 having tickets for the game, and both the Scottish and UK governments warning them against doing so due to the ongoing pandemic. The fans made their way to spots around London and gathered to cheer on their team.
While the support was boisterous and good-natured, a large amount of litter was left in the streets. Some fans blamed this on the fact that London had not provided any bins or other facilities for the travelling fans.
The following morning many Scottish fans returned to the scene of the party to help clean up the litter that had been left behind. In one street alone, it was estimated that there were 10,000 beer cans left behind.
“I’ve come to clean, not to do interviews.” One Scotsman just wanted to get on with cleaning up. He didn’t mind me filming him but didn’t want to do an interview.... Fair enough lad! #EUROS2020 #EnglandvsScotland #ScotlandvsEngland #eng #sco pic.twitter.com/KlEtZi92HW

Scottish fans who did not make the journey to London also gathered in both Glasgow and Edinburgh to celebrate the draw. Many joined in singing football chants, the Scottish national anthem and 1970s Disco hit 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' by Spanish group Baccara, which has become an unofficial anthem for the Scotland team.
Around 30 Scottish fans were arrested for minor legal infractions, including several for being naked in a public place.
Prior to the game, football pundits had said the chance of England not winning was near zero, and the bookmakers gave England an 85% chance of defeating the Scots. England are ranked 4th in the FIFA World Rankings while Scotland are ranked 48th.

This look like the promo shot for a comedy film. The whacky plucky underdogs vs the evil rich team.

The draw means that if Scotland is to beat Croatia on Tuesday evening, the Scots will make it to the knockout round of a major competition for the first time in their history.
