An Estate Agents in England has launched an internal probe after racist comments about black England footballers was published by their social-media channel.
The investigation comes as condemnation continues of the huge amount of racist abuse suffered by black England footballers who missed penalties in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.
Among the tweets sent out were pictures comparing black people to monkeys and calling black people N*****s. Others said players should 'go back to Nigeria'.
The Estate Agents said:
"Savills is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce. A full investigation will be carried out in regards to this unacceptable incident. Savills abhors and has zero tolerance to any form of racism and racial discrimination and is appalled by the racist comments in these tweets. Savills is immediately investigating and will take appropriate action."
In another incident a mural of black England footballer, Marcus Rashford, who missed a penalty in the game, was vandalised. In response a huge number of people came to the mural to cover it in positive messages. A petition to ban racists from English football stadiums has also reached well over 1 million signatures and been endorsed by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Among those to condemn the racism was Prince William who is also the head of the English Football Association. The monarch said:
"I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night's match. 'It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behaviour. It must stop now and all those involved should be held accountable."
Home Secretary Priti Patel said of the racism:
"Players who have given so much for our country this summer have been subject to vile racist abuse on social media. It has no place in our country and I back the police to hold those responsible accountable. Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves."
However, Patel was later strongly criticised as she had previously backed fans who booed players for taking the knee before matches, she has also imposed a severe immigration policy within the UK and been accused of stoking up a climate of fear in immigrant communities.
