It has been revealed that one of the individuals who fell to their deaths from a US military aircraft was an Afghan footballer.
Zaki Anwari, who was 19, played for Afghanistan's national youth football team.
He is thought to be one of three people who died after they climbed onto the wheels of an American military aircraft that was airlifting people out of the country.
In recent weeks there has been a mass evacuation program taking place in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital city, as the Taliban regime return to power after a 20 year-war against the United States, NATO, and the Afghan Army.
Many fear that they will be killed by the Taliban because they worked with or assisted the occupying forces. Others fear they will be killed for their political beliefs or for their links to the deposed Afghan government.
Afghanistan's General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports paid tribute to Mr Anwari. They released a Facebook post saying:
"May he rest in heaven and pray to God for his family, friends and sports colleagues."
While others added:
"His departure is a great sorrow. Your memory is always dear to me".
Joe Biden has defended his nation's decision to pull out of the country after 20 years. However, while some agree that it was time to leave, they have criticised the way it has been implemented.
Biden said:
"The idea that somehow there's a way to have gotten out without chaos ensuing, I don't know how that happens."
Dozens of people have been killed at the airport as they struggle to board on flights, some as a result of crushes in crowds and some as a result of gunfire. Much of the confusion on the ground is being caused by so many people with no paperwork, or who are ineligible for rescue, turning up in the hope that they can escape the country.
The US, UK and France intend to wrap up their evacuations in the coming days with senior British politicians warning that the airport could be attacked in the coming hours, completely ending the evacuation process by making the airport unusable.
