A king penguin named LaLa had left his frigid home and travelled to one of Japan's humid and hot towns, where he lived with a human family.
LaLa would leave his air-conditioned room and go to the local fish market wearing his penguin-shaped backpack. There he would enjoy his fish snack.
LaLa was apparently found trapped in a fishing net with an injured beak and wing. The fisherman who discovered LaLa kept him with him on the boat and, upon his return, he brought the penguin to the Nishimoto family.
The family took care of LaLa and treated his injuries. Since then, LaLa never left the family and so they decided to build a refrigerated room in their house, catered to his needs.
In a lovely video shot in the 1990's, LaLa is shown trekking by himself from his family home in Japan to the nearby fish market. A neighbor is then seen cooling him off with a hose. LaLa is then seen spending some quality time with the Nishimotos.
Unfortunately, LaLa passed away in 1998. You can watch LaLa's video footage below.
