In a heartwarming video, two former circus elephants are seen reuniting after over two decades of being apart.
The elephants, Shirley and Jenny, had not met each other for 22 years but the moment they reunited, they instantly recognised each other. The emotional moment where they greet each other has left everyone who watches the footage in shock. The footage shows how the fond feelings they had for one another never faded away.
The two elephants did not have an easy life. For over 20 years, they were forced to participate and perform in circus acts for people who watched them struggle in small enclosures.
Thankfully, their sorrows came to an end after a group of activists rescued them.
Following their rescue from the circus, Shirley and Jenny were taken to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. It is there that the two gentle giants reunited. It is evident that despite such a long time of separation, they remembered each other well, to the surprise of the keepers.
Carol Buckley, the Executive Director of the Sanctuary, said of the moment of the elephants' reunion:
"After several minutes of touching and exploring each other, Shirley started to ROAR and I mean ROAR—Jenny joined in immediately. The interaction was dramatic, to say the least, with both elephants trying to climb in with each other and frantically touching each other through the bars. I have never experienced anything even close to this depth of emotion."
