Legendary comedian Zach Galifianakis has been supporting financially an 87-year-old woman who had been working as a laundrywoman at Fox Laundromat for almost 20 years.
Elizabeth 'Mimi' Haist from Santa Monica, California, is known for helping her community in any way she can.
Mimi has no family but is known to be very sociable and lively.
Zach and Mimi met while both working at Fox. Galifianakis was trying to get his big break while performing in the back of burger joints. They soon formed a friendship.
But following his huge success after the release of the first 'Hangover' movie, Galifianakis eventually stopped coming by the laundromat. Mimi later told the Daily News:
"Maybe he has his own washer and dryer now."
However, Galifianakis did not forget about Mimi and their friendship. When he learnt that Mimi was struggling with homelessness and staying with friends, he decided to help.
He rented an apartment for her to stay in and even asked for the assistance of his friend and fellow actress, Renee Zellwegger to decorate Mimi's new home.
Since then, Zack took Mimi with him to the opening night of 'The Hangover Part II' and 'The Campaign'. Mimi has said that Galifianakis picked her up in a limo in front of her new digs, like a true A-List celebrity.
She said:
"If he's in town, he takes me. Otherwise he lets me take a friend. I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my makeup. It's fun, not something I've ever dreamed I'd experience. The limo takes me home afterward"
Adding:
"All the fans were taking photos and I waved at them, I said, 'They don't know who I am!
Galifianakis said in an interview:
"Mimi helps me feel better when I see her there. I've always tried to invite her to things like that."
