A while ago, her father Jamie, who served as Britney's conservator, had said that it was time for Britney to 're-take control of her life'.
In prior court fillings, Lawyers representing Jamie Spears stated:
"Her life was in shambles and she was in physical, emotional, mental and financial distress"
Mathew Rosengart, Britney's lawyer, who had praised her for her 'courage' throughout the hearings, said the singer has 'shined a light on conservatorships from California to New York' and that thanks to her testimony new legislation has been put in place 'to try to ensure that conservatorships like this... do not happen again'.
Celebrities embraced the decision and celebrations by fans and friends soon followed. In a Twitter post, Paris Hilton said 'the moment is so long overdue' and, 'Your best days are yet to come!'

Britney had appeared in court in June to ask the judge to the conservatorship, which she had described as 'abusive' and traumatising.
She also said that she had been exploited and forced to unwillingly perform and prevented from having more children and getting married.
Following her testimony, her father agreed to step down as her conservator.
