A doorbell camera has captured the moment a 92-year-old Alzheimer's patient was helped to safety by an Amazon delivery driver. The event occurred in New Jersey, United States, and has since been viewed thousands of times online, showing that even our busy lives we have time to care for the most vulnerable around us.
92-year-old Gigi, who has advanced-stage Alzheimer's disease, can be seen in the video walking out of the home and down the street. Due to her advanced condition, this would leave her extremely vulnerable and meant that she could suffer injury and would likely not find her way home due to her poor memory.
However, an Amazon delivery driver, Wilmar, saw Gigi and then approached. He noticed that Gigi was wearing an identity medical bracelet and proceeded to take her home. He then phoned the home and spoke to Gigi's granddaughter and drove the woman the short distance home.
He said:
"I was delivering and I saw this older lady was walking by. She waved at me, which isn't an odd occurrence, people wave at you all the time as an Amazon driver. But she was waving at me like something happened."
Karen, Gigi's granddaughter, said:
"I was able to flip on my Ring camera and watch them come into the driveway. It gave us that extra layer of comfort and relief that we could see everything, that she was safe, she was where she needed to be. It made me feel safe that she was taken care of by somebody who's been to my home, somebody that had a connection to the house and the family."
Wilmar himself added:
"I think it's very important that the community looks out for one another. If something happens, see something, say something. You just wanna make sure that your neighbours are safe, everybody's happy. It benefits all as long as we're all contributing."
