A crew of police officers in Italy who found a lonely couple decided to keep them company and, in the most Italian way possible, cooked them up a hearty meal of pasta.
The police had been looking into the couple after neighbours had said they had not seen them for some time, and that noises had been heard from inside their apartment. However, on inspection, the local police realised that one of them had been shouting about the sadness in the world they witnessed on a television news report.
94-year-old Jole and 84-year-old Michele, stated that they had been experiencing hard-rimes, in part due to the huge impact Covid-19 and the lockdown has had on them. Italy was the first country in Europe to go into lockdown and restrictions have been in place for almost 2 years for a disease that is still prevalent and deadly.
The four police officers attending the home initially asked the couple if they were ok, noticed they had little food in the fridge, and called a doctor to give the couple a clean bill of health. However, the police also decided that they had to do something to cheer the couple up and show them that positivity still exists in the world. Therefore, the police went out and bought food and made a huge pasta meal which they shared with the couple.
The police later shared pictures of them all eating the meal on their Facebook page. These pictures soon went viral, and the police came in for great praise from the online community. Others also stated how important it was for families and neighbours to look out for the elderly and vulnerable, particularly in these times.
