A young man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was filmed helping out a passenger who got caught in a panic at the airport trying to get home to her family.
A traveller by the name of Stephanie was at Ibiza airport and was trying to get onboard a Ryanair flight to Stanstead Airport, London, with her three kids. However, at the boarding, she was told that her bag was too big to be taken into the plane carriage and that she would be charged for putting it in the cargo hold.
As Stephanie only had cash with her, it made paying for this impossible, despite the bag holding many important belongings. This was a moment of extreme stress as the woman who was travelling alone with her three children and trying to get to London and see family during the pandemic. It had also been a long time since Stephanie had travelled by plane and was uncertain of the exact rules.
Luckily a young man stepped forward from the crowd and paid the £50 ($65) charge with his card.
He says in the video:
"It's alright, it's alright. Don't worry, I'll pay for you."
It was then that Stephanie began to cry.
In an interview with the UK's Daily Mail newspaper, Stephanie said:
"The plane was half-full so I couldn't understand why they couldn't take my bag or put it in the hold. Plus with everything that's going on, you can see on the video that I'm quite anxious. This kind man turned around and said he would pay for me – it was an amazing act of kindness that he really didn't need to do. He literally came out of nowhere, it was a crazy experience. Apparently, he wants to remain anonymous. I just want to have a chat with him because I don't think he realizes how nice a gesture it was and how much it meant to me."
One Twitter user said:
"Well done to this young hero for paying the ridiculous Ryanair luggage charges for a distressed mother traveling with 3 kids (who wasn't getting any leniency from ground staff). The flight from Ibiza to Stansted was half empty, not sure what difference a few cms would make."
