It has been alleged via multiple sources that the Russian army is carrying mobile crematoriums into Ukraine in order to burn their dead and stop the return of coffins, which would be a propaganda blow.
The crematoriums are said to be hidden in trucks and have been in use since 2013.
British Defence Minister Ben Wallace told The Daily Telegraph:
"If I was a soldier and knew that my generals had so little faith in me that they followed me around the battlefield with a mobile crematorium, or I was the mother or father of a son, potentially deployed into a combat zone, and my government thought that the way to cover up losses was a mobile crematorium, I'd be deeply, deeply worried."
At the same time a group called the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia has said that many do not know where their sons are. Footage of captured Russian soldiers indicates many did not know they would be sent to Ukraine until the last moment, or why they were actually there fighting.
Andrei Kurochkin, the deputy chairman of the organisation said:
"We've had a flurry of calls from scared mothers all over Russia. They are crying, they don't know if their children are alive or healthy… If there is a war, then professionals should deal with it, not untrained green guys."
They have also alleged that soldiers that did not wish to fight were beaten. Reports of violence have long been part of conscription within Russia. They said:
"There are instances of physical violence, and beatings of those who refuse to become contract soldiers. And after that it's completely unknown [what happens to them], because they take away their phones."
At present, there is a huge amount of misinformation regarding the conflict as Russia attempts to take over the government in Kiev and install its own puppet regime.
In a glimmer of hope, it has been announced that both Russia and Ukraine will engage in peace talks on Monday, however the President of Ukraine has said that he does not hold out much hope for the discussions and that the Ukraine government would not give up any of its territory.
