The White House has announced that they have adopted a new cat called 'Willow'.
In a press release, the White House, which is the headquarters of the president of the United States, said that the shorthaired gray tabby cat had been adopted after a suggestion by President Joe Biden's wife Jill.
Jill had met the cat 2 years ago in 2020 when Dr. Jill Biden was making a speech in her hometown on a farm in Pennsylvania. During the speech, the little cat hoped onto stage and went up to introduce herself to the First Lady.
The First Lady's spokesperson said:
"Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop. Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden."
"Willow is settling into the White House with her favorite toys, treats, and plenty of room to smell and explore."
The cat is named Willow after Willow Grove, where the First Lady was born and will join the first family's other pet, an Alsatian puppy called 'Commander'.

The family's previous dog 'Champ' died in 2021 and another dog 'Major' had to be rehomed due to behavioural difficulties.
The last cat to live in the White House was the Bush's cat 'India', and prior to that the Clinton's lived with a cat by the name of 'Socks'.
Other famous previous animal inhabitants of the White House include Obama's dog 'Bo', a Portuguese water dog, Ronald Reagan's dog 'Rex', and Abraham Lincoln's dog 'Fido' which was killed by a drunken maniac just months after Lincoln's assassination. Donald Trump is one of the few presidents in the White House to not have any pets during their stint in the oval office.
What is certain is that for any pet there are few places in the world they will be more privileged and taken care of than the home of the most powerful person on the planet.
