Soon after the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for Greek citizens to leave Ukraine, the death of two members of the diaspora community were announced in the country.
Two soldiers of the Ukrainian army were taken into custody for the murders.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an announcement:
"We express our deepest sorrow for the death of two expatriates and the serious injury of two others in the village of Granitna, which is located near the contact line in Eastern Ukraine. We also express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery of the injured."
"According to the available evidence, the perpetrators of the double murder are three soldiers of the Ukrainian army, who argued with the expatriates for an insignificant reason."
It has been reported that Nikos Dendias, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has requested to speak with Dmytro Kuleba, his Ukrainian counterpart, in order to ask for the protection of the Greek community in Ukraine.
