The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has said that China stands on the right side of history over the war in Ukraine and that its stance is in line with the wishes of most countries.
According to a statement published by the ministry on Sunday, Wang told reporters:
"China will never accept any external coercion or pressure, and opposes any unfounded accusations and suspicions against China."
The ministers comments came following Joe Biden's warning against the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, of 'consequences' if material support was given to Russia.
During an online meeting, Xi reportedly told Biden that the ongoing war in Ukraine must stop as soon as possible and that NATO nations should have a dialogue with Russia.
Wang reported that the most important thing Xi said was that Chine has always been assisting in preserving world peace.
Wang said:
"We have always stood for maintaining peace and opposing war. China's position is objective and fair, and is in line with the wishes of most countries. Time will prove that China's claims are on the right side of history."
Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng had previously said that sanctions imposed on Russia over Ukraine by Western nations are 'outrageous'.
