Footage captured from a drone showing the massive destruction of the port city of Mariupol in Ukraine following the Russian bombardment was released on Wednesday the 23rd of March.
In the footage, plumes of smoke rising from the Livoberezha district of the city can be seen along with many burnt buildings.
The footage was captured and shared by an all-volunteer infantry regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine called the Azov Battalion. The group has been reputed to contain far-right extremists and neo-nazis and was integrated into the National Guard of Ukraine in 2014, following their assistance to recapture Mariupol from separatists.
The video has been geolocated to the Livoberezhnyi District of Mariupol and sweeps over Morskyi Boulevard.
The same day the footage was released, Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that approximately 100,000 people are trapped in Mariupol following a blockade by Russian forces. Severe shortages of food, water and electricity have also been reported.
Ukrainian officials have been accusing Russia of targeting evacuation buses that transport residents of Mariupol.
