Vladimir Putin announced in a warning that world food prices will rise even more if powers in the West keep sanctioning Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
Russia is the world's largest producer of fertilizers.
During a government meeting chaired by Putin, Dmitry Patrushev, the Agriculture Minister of Russia, said that Moscow will continue to satisfy export commitments to world markets, thereby guaranteeing food security.
Putin has called the financial sanctions imposed on Russia by the West, 'illegal' while accusing Western governments for deceiving their own people.
He said:
"As for the countries that are taking hostile steps towards us and our economy, we are well aware that they are calling on their citizens to tighten their belts, dress warmly and, in general, indicate the sanctions they are imposing on us, as a reason for the deterioration of the situation. Everything seems very strange, especially since we are fulfilling all our obligations in the field of energy supply."
He noted that Russia is committed to supply energy to the West, even though the United States recently decided to cut off oil imports from the country.
He said:
"We still supply oil/ gas nothing has changed, but we see prices have risen all over the world so they can blame it on us. We only supply 3% oil to the U.S yet their inflation has risen, highest in history. They are using this to exploit their citizens."
