It has been reported that Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said that if a third World War were to happen, it would involve nuclear weapons and be destructive. The statement was made on Wednesday and reported by the RIA news agency.
The minister added that Russia would face a 'real danger' if Kyiv acquired nuclear weapons.
Lavrov did not offer any evidence other than noting that 'Ukraine still has Soviet nuclear technologies and the means of delivery of such weapons'.
Studies show that Russia has the largest amount of nuclear weapons in the world. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Russia acquires 6,255 warheads against 5,550 held by the US. China only has 350 nuclear warheads, while France has 290.
