There have been reports that Russian soldiers who captured the site where the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is located have been suffering from radiation-induced sickness.
The CEO of tour operator, Nuclear Tour, Yaroslav Yemelianenko, has reported that a group of Russian troops occupying the site near Pripyat was transported to a special medical centre in Belarus for treatment following the exposure to high levels of radiation.
He wrote on a Facebook post:
"Another batch of Russian irradiated terrorists, who occupied the Chornobyl zone, was brought to the Belarusian Radiation Medicine Center in Homel today. Have you dug enough trenches in the Red Forest, motherf*ckers? Now live with it for the rest of your short life."
According to other reports, Russian troops driving through the 'Red Forest', a highly irradiated area near the nuclear power pant, were not wearing the recommended protective equipment. Two Ukrainian employees in Chernobyl described the troops' behaviour as 'suicidal', as they stormed through the area unprotected, according to Reuters.
Surprisingly, one of the soldiers did not even know of the nuclear disaster that took place on the site back in 1986, according to reports.
Employees still working on the site said that a convoy of Russian military vehicles that passed through the Red Forest caused a spike in radiation levels by spreading radioactive dust into the air.
