A couple in the Uttarakhand state of north India is pursuing a lawsuit against their only son and his wife for not having any children after six years of marriage.
61-year-old Sanjeev Prasad and 57-year-old Sadhana Prasad state that they spent all their life savings to raise their son and that they also covered his pilot training and wedding expenses.
The couple now demands compensation of about $650,000, unless his son and his wife have a child within a year.
Their lawsuit is argued for on the grounds of 'mental harassment'.
According to the Times of India, the couple's son lost his job in 2007 and received financial support from his parents for over two years.
Their 35-year-old son, Shrey Sagar, eventually managed to be employed as a pilot. His parents argue that they agreed to his marriage to 31-year-old Shubhangi Sinha in 2016, given that they would have a 'grandchild to play with' after they retire.

The parents claim that they paid for the wedding reception and the honeymoon along with a luxury car that cost $80,000.
Mr Prasad said:
"My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable."
The parents' lawyer, AK Srivastava said that they demand the funds 'because of mental cruelty', according to The National.
He said:
"It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. They had been waiting for years to become grandparents."
The hearing for their petition is expected to take place on May 17.
