A Russian TV presenter on state television has called on Vladimir Putin to wipe the UK off the map by creating a 1,600ft radioactive tidal wave that would plunge the UK to the depths of the ocean.
The bizarre rant was made by Dmitry Kiselyov on his Sunday TV talk show and was complete with graphics and a computerised demonstration. The Kremlin mouthpiece said that just one Poseidon nuclear weapon of 100 megatons would be detonated off the coast and submerge the island of Britain.
He said:
"This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation. Surging over Britain, it will turn whatever is left of them into radioactive desert, unusable for anything. How do you like this prospect?"
He added:
"[Their] island is so small that one Sarmat missile is enough to drown it once and for all. [It] is capable of destroying an area the size of Texas or England. A single launch, Boris, and there is no England anymore."
The threats have been made on the back of the UK's staunch support for Ukraine against the brutal ongoing Russian invasion that is now entering its 9th week, which has already claimed tens-of-thousands of lives.
The British security agency MI5 has warned that there is now an increased threat of Russian agents entering the UK to carry out attacks on key infrastructure.
In recent days, there has been an increase in the rhetoric from Russia, much of it coming from online troll farms, and from those seeking to spread misinformation about the war. In one post a leader of one of these groups said:
"Friends, the main weapon of a cyber fighter is information! But for effective actions on the field of information war, efficiency is important, which means you should always have your orders to hand. Therefore, for your convenience, we will mark our posts with hashtags, each of which will correspond to a specific category. This will allow you to quickly find the information you need on the channel and apply it during the 'battle'."
There is also the fear that Putin is preparing the 9th of May, which commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, to mass-mobilise the Russian population for a major war. Analysts have suggested this could pose a huge danger for Putin as civilians and their families may strongly resist this move and begin further questioning Putin's authority.
