A man who became a widow after 66-years-of-marriage has built a huge pool in his back garden so that all the neighbourhood kids have somewhere to go in the summer.
Keith Davison, a retired district court judge, was married to Evy for 66 years until she died of cancer in 2016. Keith, who had an exciting life as a soldier in World War II and then as an active member within musical circles, decided he wished to create some community spirit by building the pool in his own back garden.
It is certainly no paddling pool. At 32 feet long and 9 feet deep it is big enough to accommodate a large number of guests, young and old, who have been flocking to his garden to cool off.
Jessica Huebner, a neighbour told reporters:
“This spring when I saw him marking the yard, I told my husband, he’s really going to put a pool in his backyard.”
Since then, Jessica and her four children have been regular visitors.
Adding:
“It’s him spreading joy throughout our neighbourhood for these kids.”
Saying to Keith:
“You kind of adopted our whole neighbourhood of kids. These are your grandkids.”
Keith says himself:
“I’m not sitting by myself looking at the walls. What else would you think of doing where you could have a whole bunch of kids over every afternoon?”
Keith, who has three grown up children but no grandchildren, now loves socialising with the community and building bridges across the generations. While the installation of the pool may have cost Keith a substantial sum of money, he believes it to be a small cost compared to the joy he has managed to bring others and the great companionship he has found since the loss of his beloved wife.
